TransAccount Project Management System (MLIS 5016)

TransAccount answers the need for a multilingual translation system allowing the translation and interpretation between the annual accounts of a member state of the European Union (France) and the US financial statements. Based on the development of a cross-language and cross-cultural accounting and management terminology and thesaurus; linguistic and accounting translation systems and knowledge bases will be developed and integrated into a web-based application. The TransAccount knowledge base includes a terminology section (multilingual terminological database), a reference section (a text database of reference documents on each national accounting systems), and a thesaurus section (a multilingual thesaurus on accounting systems). Both the terminology section and the thesaurus section are also incorporated in the translation sub-systems. The translation sub-system uses a document structure parser to identify and parse the various parts of an accounting document. The accounting sections are translated using the Account Translation sub-system and the textual parts are translated using the Text Translation sub-system. A general system will be defined so as to integrate the composition and the adaptability of the existing sub-systems (accounting translation, linguistic translation, terminological definition of nomenclatures, knowledge bases, human - machine interface and interaction, and communication). The communication sub-system, which will use Internet as telematic support, will be integrated in a software architecture. The targeted users are : financial and accounting experts and specialists of non-financial enterprises (large and small companies, multinational groups, international organisations), audit firms and accountants, banks, financial analysis companies and stock exchanges, financial data providers.
